What is DNS?

The Domain Name Service (or DNS) is the key to the presence of your server on the internet. You are probably aware your domain has an “IP” address, which stands for Internet Protocol; that number is your domain’s literal web address on the internet. A typical IP address is a series of four numbers called octets that are identified like so:  You can think of your IP address as being similar to a postal address. The IP address is the exact location where your domain lives. I usually explain it like this;

Automating DNS With Zone Delegation and the Storm API

Reading Time: 2 minutesAlthough the term DNS zone delegation may seem new to you, you have been using zone delegation without even realizing it. When you tell your domain’s registrar what nameservers you are using for a particular domain, you are delegating the zone for that domain.

Single zone delegation will work for most people. In fact, most use a single zone file to reference multiple hosts, or multiple subdomains residing on a single host. However, there are cases where it may be beneficial to perform additional delegation.
